1. The truth about the ratings (IP65 vs IP67)
At FreedConn, not all models are equal against water. Check the spec sheet carefully before buying:
IP65 (standard resistance): this means the device is protected against dust and water jets (rain, even heavy). This is the standard on models like the R1 Pro or the FX Standard. They'll hold up perfectly under a normal downpour.
IP67 (total waterproofing): this is the higher tier. The device is theoretically waterproof against temporary immersion (up to 1 meter). Models like the FX Pro, the FX Plus, and the Free+ get this enhanced protection
2. Which model for your use?

The "all-season" choice (IP67): the FX Pro, FX Plus, and Free+ offer total waterproofing, ideal for high-mileage riders out 365 days a year.
The "everyday" choice (IP65): the R1 Pro and T-Max are perfectly protected to handle your usual rides worry-free, even in surprise showers.
3. Which model for which weather?
If you're an "always riding" type crossing the country in November, don't take chances.
The "storm" choice: go for the FX Pro / FX Plus series or the Free+. Their IP67 certification and waterproof USB-C charging port offer the best barrier against critical moisture.
The "day ride" choice: if you mostly ride in good weather and only worry about a passing shower, the R1 Pro or the T-Max will get the job done without issue.
4. The mistake that kills it (the USB cover)
99% of "water" failures don't come from the device — they come from the user. The weak point of any intercom is the charging port.
The golden rule: always make sure the rubber cover (the little flap) is fully pushed shut before heading out. If this cover is poorly closed, or you charge the device while riding in the rain (not recommended), water will go straight onto the motherboard.
The tip: check the condition of the rubber seal. If it's torn or dried out, waterproofing is no longer guaranteed.
5. What to do if it got wet?
Got caught in a downpour and the sound crackles? Don't panic.
1. Turn the intercom off immediately.
2. Whatever you do, don't plug it into the charger.
3. Let it dry for 24 to 48 hours in a dry, ventilated spot (not on a hot radiator!).
Most of the time, the moisture evaporates and the device works again.
